At the foundation is Ludwig’s proprietary 7-ply shell consisting of a 4-ply maple exterior with a 3-ply cherry interior. The cherry ply adds a warmth and playability to the familiar attack of maple while also adding extra "breath" to the drum’s overall tone. Handcrafted at Ludwig´s factory in Monroe, NC, USA, this shell is their thinnest, measuring a mere 5.5 mm thick for superior resonance and sustain. Their lightweight design makes them great for the gigging drummer.
